Regatta Details

** New for this year is a rain date scheduled for the following day (Monday August 6th) at the same time.  Watch for the orange course markers. If the markers are out Sunday, the sailing is on - if the markers are not out Sunday, the rain date is the next day (Monday) at the same time.

** There will be two races of one lap each giving a chance for all sailors to regroup and have another start. As usual all markers will be kept to port (left) while the length of the course will be dependant on the wind conditions.

** Proving to be popular, all boats' times will be adjusted using Portsmouth Yardstick handicaps to adjust for different kinds of boats.  Come out with your slowest boat and you can still challenge.

Irving Green proudly accepts the winner's trophy for 2010. The trophy was handcrafted by Stewart Haake .

Stuart Dennis is the 2011 trophy winner.

2012 SAILING & SNACKING

Sunday August 5th

Much of the world will be turning its attention to the Summer Olympics in London this year.  They will be hosting various sailing events just as they have since 1900. Similarly, there is also going to be a spectacular sailing regatta right here on Canning Lake this summer.

Get ready to come out to the Canning Lake Fun Sailing Regatta on Sunday August 5th. Meet at 10:30 by the double orange markers for a 11:00 start in the big part of the lake.  All types of sailing vessels are welcome and everyone has an equal chance of placing first as we will be using the "Portsmouth Yardstick" handicap system again this year. This system equalizes all the different floating crafts so that everyone has an equal chance to take home the trophy.  This proved to be popular last year.  As always, paddlers are also welcome to run the course and bring cheer.  In 2011, we had our best turnout ever and everyone had fun no matter how they placed

So grab the main sheet and man the jib.  Come out and join in to make 2012 another memorable event.

Snacks, refreshments and awards will follow the sailing at the Dennis' yellow cottage 1206 Silverwoods Rd.
